The Cartridge for Application Operations includes an End User tab and an enhanced dependency view in the Service Operations Console. These view focus on using tiles to show summarized information about particular types of monitored objects in Foglight. A complete list of tiles is available in the reference section of the Foglight Monitoring Application Performance User and Reference Guide, which is documented in edocs:
In order for tiles to be properly represented, services must be built with the appropriate topology objects. The service builders associated with the Cartridge for Application Operations (Build Service from Host Dependencies, Update Service from Dependency Data, Build Services from Service Suggestions) pre-identify and suggest the appropriate topology objects. However, if you build services using the traditional Service Builder in Foglight, you must manually identify and select the appropriate topology objects.
If objects added manually to a service in the Service Builder do not map directly to the objects required to support the tiles, then you will not have the expected behaviors described in the product documentation described above. This document will clarify the specific topology objects and related tiles to add manually from the Service Builder in order to get the expected results.
Domain tiles require the appropriate Foglight topology objects to be included in the service definition. Services built using the Service Builder that select similar, but not identical topology object types will not display the tiles appropriately.
Using the service builders associated with the Cartridge for Application Operations (Build Service from Host Dependencies, Update Service from Dependency Data, Build Services from Service Suggestions) will allow you to select the appropriate topology objects.
While we expect to add more tiles to the solution, the list below represents the current domains covered (as of 5.6.4) and the associated topology objects. If you are building your services manually using the Service Builder, you must choose from the topology objects below:
Domain Topology Object
.Net .NETApplicationInstance
Apache ApacheSvrAgent
AppMonitor AppMonitorAgent
DB2 DB2_Instance
FTR FTRResult
FxM FxM Application Results
Host* Host
Java JavaEEAppServer
JMX JMXServer
Log Filter LogFilterAgent
MQ Series MMQueueManager
Oracle DBO_Instance
SQL Server DBSS_Instance
Sybase Sybase_MDAAgent
WebMonitor WebMonitorAgent
*For hosts, you should always select the host object, regardless of if the host is virtual (HyperV, VMWare). Foglight will look for any appropriate host extensions and will display the proper host dashboard (physical or virtual).
