Windows_System agent fails to start on Windows 2008 "ProcessExitMonitor - Process has exited, code -1073741819 hex c0000005 (4312011)

Windows_System agent fails to start on Windows 2008. The debug agent log indicates the following error:

[JFogbankAgent-0] com.quest.glue.core.jfogbank.process.ProcessExitMonitor - Process has exited, code -1073741819 hex c0000005

The performance counters need to be rebuilt.

STATUS: The error indicates that rebuilding the performance counters should resolve this issue per the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300956.
As that link states, be sure to create a backup of the registry first.

Note: The above article from Microsoft references the i386 directory which does not exist on window 2008 servers. I have found the following articles:

NOTE: It was noted at one site that they deleted the performance subkeys related to wmi and got the agent working properly.
