Performing a full restore for Hyper-V® VMs

vRanger performs a full restore of a VM by using a savepoint created from a backup job. A savepoint contains point-in-time data of the VM. If you select an incremental savepoint from which to restore the server, a full savepoint is also restored, along with every incremental savepoint taken between the time of the full backup and the time of the selected incremental backup.

To perform a full restore for a VM, complete the following tasks:

Starting the Restore Wizard

When restoring a server from a savepoint, the Restore Wizard guides you through the steps necessary to complete the restore.

To use the Restore Wizard:

In the Working Repository pane, find the machine to restore. You can filter the machine results by inventory type, and/or search for any part of the machine name.

To select a different savepoint, expand the machine row and select the desired savepoint. Right-click the savepoint, and click Restore, or click Restore on the vRanger toolbar. The Restore Wizard starts.

On the Job Information page, enter the Job Name and Job Description.

Click Next.

Selecting a Destination

The Destination Selection page lets you configure the host, drives, and datastores to which the savepoints are to be restored.

To select a destination:

Select the host from the Master Host drop-down list.

Confirm that the path that appears in the Virtual Machine Location field is correct. To change this path, use the browse (…) button to locate and a select a new location.

Click the Master Disk Storage Datastore browse button to locate and select the datastore to use for all VMs. The Master Datastore lets you select all datastores simultaneously.

Click Assign.

To select a different host for each VM, click the drop-down list in the Restore To Host column, and then select the host to which the VM should be restored.

Selecting a network

The Network Selection page lets you configure the virtual network to which each network adapters should be connected upon restore. You can configure a Master Network, which will be pre-populated as the default selection for each network adaptor in the restore job.

To select a network:
To use the same network for all VMs, select a host from the Master Network drop-down list to which all VMs should be restored. Click Assign.
