After both source and target Exchange organizations have been set up for Internet mail flow as well as both source and target DNS servers have been configured for mail forwarding, it is recommended to test the connection between the source and the target organizations.

To test the SMTP connectors:
Exchange 2003 organization to Exchange 2010 organization migration scenario is not supported, if MSA or CSA is installed directly on the source Exchange 2003 server and one of the following situations takes place:
This issue is caused by the difference between the Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 MAPI logon methods that prevents logging on to Exchange 2010 through Exchange 2003 MAPI. To work around the issue, you need to use separate agent hosts for MSA or CSA instead of installing them directly on the source Exchange 2003 server.
