Foglight for Exchange views

Foglight displays monitoring data in views that group, format, and display data. The main types are described below.

Dashboards are top-level views that contain lower-level views. The dashboards supplied with Foglight, as well as those created by users, are accessible from the navigation panel.

Lower-level views can be added to dashboards or can be accessed by drilling down from a dashboard. They receive and display data directly from the Foglight Management Server or from other views. Some views filter or select data that appears in other views in the same dashboard. Some are tree views with expandable nodes for selecting servers, applications or data.

This section provides a description of the metrics displayed in the lower-level views on the Foglight for Exchange dashboards. The beginning of the section explains which views are available to monitor the health of your Exchange servers broken down by Exchange role, server or site.

The latter part of the section provides a detailed description of the information and metrics displayed in the embedded views.

Role views

Server roles allow administrators to split up the functions of an Exchange server and place each role, or a combination of roles, on different servers. There are five server roles that can be installed in an Exchange organization:

Edge Transport is installed on a stand alone server that is not a member of the Active Directory® domain and routes mail between the Exchange organization and the Internet. It provides protection against spam and viruses.
Hub Transport is the mail routing server responsible for routing mail within the Exchange organization.
Client Access is the server that users connect to using their mail client, mobile device or web browser. The Client Access role is installed in every Exchange organization and every Active Directory site that has the Mailbox server role installed.
Mailbox which holds the Exchange databases where the user mailboxes and public folders reside.
Unified Messaging is responsible for merging your VOIP infrastructure with your Exchange system.

The following views are available to monitor the health and performance of the servers hosting these Exchange roles.

Exchange Roles Environment Summary (All Exchange Roles) view

The Exchange Roles Environment Summary (All Exchange Roles) view displays a summary of all Exchange roles (Client Access, Edge Transport, Hub Transport, Mailbox, and Unified Messaging) installed on your Exchange environment. It also displays the Exchange features enabled in each role and the overall role status per Exchange server.

The following table lists the Exchange features for which additional data is available for each type of Exchange role.
