About NetVault Command Line Interface

NetVault offers a Command Line Interface that can be used to configure and manage your NetVault system from command prompt or terminal session. You can use the NetVault CLI to perform various tasks such as the following:

Start and stop the NetVault Service
•
Configure performance, security, and other options
•
Manage clients, storage devices, and storage media
•
Perform backups and restores
•
Generate and view reports

The NetVault CLI can be accessed from the NetVault Server and Client machines.

NOTE: NetVault Command Line Interface (CLI) is not supported in Managed Service Providers (MSP) environment.

Working with command-line utilities

The command-line utilities are located in the util directory (<NetVault home>\util on Windows and <NetVault Home>/util on Linux). A few specialized utilities are also located in the bin directory <NetVault home>\bin on Windows and <NetVault Home>/bin on Linux). The CLI commands are non-blocking. The term “non-blocking” means that a response to the command is returned before the action has completed; this allows for continuous running of various commands.

Prerequisites

Before you start a CLI session, verify that the following requirements are met:

To use the CLI utilities, you must be logged-in with Administrator privileges on Windows and root user privileges on Linux and UNIX.
•
A NetVault user must have necessary privileges to access and use the CLI utilities. These privileges are assigned from the NetVault WebUI. For more information, see the Quest NetVault Administrator’s Guide.
