Foglight® Capacity Director delivers complete virtual infrastructure capacity life cycle management. Get deep insight into your environment, including the availability and estimated time left for CPU, memory, storage, and Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPs). Use historical trends to better forecast resource requirements for clusters, hosts, and workloads—and proactively predict and budget for capital expenditures. Optimize resource utilization and reduce operational expenses by re-balancing the distribution of clusters and workloads. Model your infrastructure changes (add, move, or remove clusters, hosts, and virtual machines) before deployment, to avoid bottlenecks, performance issues, or reaching the system’s capacity limits.
The Foglight Capacity Director User Guide is intended for:
• |
VMware: users who have been assigned the System Administrator, Advanced Operator, Capacity Management Administrator, VMware Administrator, or VMware QuickView User role. |
• |
Hyper-V: users who is a member of a local group administrators. |

Foglight Capacity Director requires the following cartridges for data collection:
NOTE: After installing the Virtual-VMware-6.1.0.car cartridge, existing vCenter agents (VC agents) must be updated using the Update Agent button in the VMware Environment > Administration tab. |
Each VMware Performance Agent monitors a single vCenter®. When you create a VMware Performance Agent instance, the Performance Agent starts importing historical data into Foglight Capacity Director. To fully enable Foglight Capacity Director functionalities in the VMware Environment and to enable the configuration of the Automated attribute when you create a planned change using the Add/Move/Decommission wizard in Foglight Capacity Director, a user with sufficient privileges must be configured.
On the vCenter® server, create a new role with the following privileges:
Refer to “Configuring monitoring agents for data collection” in the Using Foglight for VMware guide for instructions about configuring agent privileges.
Each Hyper-V Agent monitors a single virtual machine. When you create a Hyper-V Agent instance, the agent starts importing historical data into Foglight Capacity Director. To fully enable Foglight Capacity Director functionalities in the Hyper-V environment and to enable the configuration of the Automated attribute when you create a planned change using the Add/Move/Decommission wizard in Foglight Capacity Director, the user must be a member of a local group administrators.
