Activity Page (Xen)

Use the Activity page to see detailed information about the CPU use of the virtual machine. You can see:

  • How much CPU the virtual machine is using.
  • How much CPU is stolen from this virtual machine.
  • Is the performance of this virtual machine affected by its use of CPU and the use of CPU by other virtual machines on the host.

To open the Activity Page

  1. Select the Spotlight on Oracle connection in the Spotlight Browser.
  2. Click Virtualization | Activity.

Charts on the Activity Page

Chart Description

CPU Utilization

CPU Utilization shows how much CPU the virtual machine is using.

Data Description

Usage

Percentage of physical CPU allocated to the virtual machine that is being used by the virtual machine.

Note: This value may differ from that shown on the home page and in the Operating System drilldown. The value shown here is the host's view of the virtual machine. CPU utilization shown elsewhere is presented from the perspective of the (virtualized) operating system.

CPU Virtualization Overhead

Data Description

Stolen

Percentage of physical CPU allocated to the virtual machine that is in use by processes other than the virtual machine. It is stolen from the virtual machine's allocation. Perhaps it is being used by other virtual machines on the host or XEN itself.

CPU Starvation

Is the performance of this virtual machine affected by its use of CPU and the use of CPU by other virtual machines on the host.

Data Description

Stolen

Percentage of physical CPU allocated to the virtual machine that is in use by processes other than the virtual machine. It is stolen from the virtual machine's allocation. Perhaps it is being used by other virtual machines on the host or XEN itself. The value is an inverted mirror image of the CPU Virtualization Overhead chart.

Idle

Percentage of CPU remaining after CPU overhead and CPU usage have been deducted.

A low idle percentage indicates that the virtual machine may not be getting the CPU time it requires. This can be seen in the chart when the overhead and usage percentages meet.

Usage

Percentage of physical CPU allocated to the virtual machine that is being used by the virtual machine. This value is identical to that shown in the CPU Utilization chart.

Note: This value may differ from that shown on the home page and in the Operating System drilldown. The value shown here is the host's view of the virtual machine. CPU utilization shown elsewhere is presented from the perspective of the (virtualized) operating system.
