Below are specifics regarding how NetVault SmartDisk licensing works.
To pull information from your SmartDisk instance regarding your licensed SmartDisk capacity (how much you can use) vs. your current "Protected Data" (how much you are using), do the following:
- Right-click on SmartDisk in Device Management and choose "Status"
- Go to the "Storage" tab, which will show your "Data Protected" and "License" capacity
NetVault SmartDisk is licensed based off the Logical Capacity, or Total Size, *before* deduplication, of ALL backups that are stored in NetVault SmartDisk.
NetVault SmartDisk provides the ability to deploy multiple Instances which can be targeted for backup from multiple NVBU Servers. When calculating the licensed capacity for NetVault SmartDisk, the capacity across all deployed NVSD Instances must be included. For example, if two NVBU Servers are targeting backups to one or more NetVault SmartDisk Instances, the capacity of the backups from both NVBU Servers must be included in the calculations.
NVSD Licensed Capacity is NOT based upon any of the following:
• Actual size of the Storage Pool Staging Store or Chunk Store
• Actual size of the backups after deduplication
Before calculating the required NVSD Capacity, ensure that the backups being targeted to NetVault SmartDisk are compatible with NetVault SmartDisk. Refer to the NetVault SmartDisk Release Notes for additional details. For assistance in calculating the required SmartDisk capacity required for a specific configuration, please use the NetVault Quote Tool or contact your local Quest NetVault sales or sales engineering representative.
