When performing an installation of Migration Agent for Exchange (MAgE), the installation will fail with Windows Installer error 1603 and display the following error:
"The following requirements are not met: - Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5"
When the MAgE installation is initiated, a prerequisite check is performed to confirm the proper version of Microsoft .NET Framework is installed. For version 8.11 with the at least (8.11.0.1412) Hot Fix version applied, .NET Framework version 4.5 is required.
Recently, Microsoft has released the following update (KB3102467) that will be pushed as an important Windows Update - which upgrades .NET Framework 4.5.1 / 4.5.2 to version 4.6.1.
When this update is installed, the MAgE installer will check the following registry location and fail to find version 4.5.X installed and instead, find 4.6.X which causes the installation to fail.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\
version = 4.6.X
To allow the installation of MAgE to complete successfully, remove the Windows update (KB3102467) and any related security patches for Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.6.1.
Once the update has been removed, restart the operating system the installation failed on initially and then simply attempt the install once again.
