Discovery error: "Data storage error: An error occurred during the writing of the data to the database. ActiveDIrectory:LDAP://DC=Contoso,DC=com. Error: The database disk image is malformed."
Description
When running a discovery it may fail with an error similar to the following: "Data storage error: An error occurred during the writing of the data to the database. ActiveDIrectory:LDAP://DC=Contoso,DC=com. Error: The database disk image is malformed"
Cause
This is generally caused by the SQLite DB on the node becoming corrupted. The corruption can be caused by any number of reasons such as:
Multiple handles open to the SQLite DB
Insufficient space for the files in the temp folders to grow
Antivirus possibly causing issues by scanning these files/folders, or blocking certain activities
If these folders are synced with a cloud service such as OneDrive
Resolution
The following steps are known to resolve the issue:
Stop the node service
Stop the ER Server service
On the node machine, delete the temp folders: C:\users\<node service account>\AppData\Local\ERData and C:\users\<node service account>\AppData\Local\ERMasterData
Start the ER Server service
Start the node service and confirm the previously deleted temp folders have been recreated
Run only the previously failing discovery to confirm that the issue is now resolved
To help mitigate this issue from occurring again:
Ensure the disk has sufficient space for the files in the temp folders to grow
Add Antivirus exceptions for the folders C:\users\<node service account>\AppData\Local\ERData and C:\users\<node service account>\AppData\Local\ERMasterData
Add Antivirus exceptions for the file extensions "cdf" and "mcdf"
Ensure the folders are not in scope for any synching software, such as OneDrive
