SQL by Classification

In Find SQL, SQL Optimizer groups the collected SQL into SQL Classification categories. The SQL by Classification page allows you to view the list of SQL for each classification category. You can also use this page to view the details of each statement.

To view SQL by Classification

  1. On the Search Results page for a current or previously-saved Find SQL session, scroll down to the SQL Classification panel.
  2. Click a color-coded classification category in the pie chart or the legend.
  3. The SQL by Classification page opens displaying the list of SQL in that category.
  4. Select a SQL statement to view SQL details.
    • View the selected SQL statement's execution plan in the Execution Plan tab.
    • Click to view the batch or object script. The selected SQL is shown highlighted within the script.
    • Click to show only the SQL text again.
    • Click View Batch or View Database Object to view batch/object statistics, as well as the other SQL statements in the batch/object.
      • Use the Classification Type column to see how many SQL statements of each type are in the batch or object.
    • Select the SQL Information tab to view the SQL classification rule used to classify the SQL.
  5. The top-right corner of the window displays the classification category (Simple, Complex, Problematic, or Invalid).

    • To view a different category, click the link and select a different SQL classification type from the drop-down list. For descriptions of classification categories, see SQL Classification Categories.
    • Click Switch to filter by classification rules in the same drop-down list to filter SQL by rules you select. This method displays SQL in all applicable categories according to the rules selected.

Note: Any rules that were not be used by SQL Optimizer to classify collected SQL in this Find SQL session are disabled in the drop-down list.

  6. Click to return to the dashboard page.

Tip: You can enable/disable classification rules or define new rules in Options | General | SQL Classification. See SQL Classification Options for more information.
