For information about system requirements for this release, see the Foglight System Requirements and Platform Support Guide.

Before installing Foglight Capacity Director, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform  Management Server
  • CPU: 2-way 2.4 GHz
  • Processors: 1 dual core or 2 single core processors
  • IO: 7.5K RPM, 40 GB or greater
Memory 4 GB

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and Foglight for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

Foglight Capacity Director provides a license for free 30-day trial. While Foglight Capacity Manager does not require a license, it works with Foglight Capacity Director and the data collected by Foglight for VMware, and therefore requires that these products are installed and licensed.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

About Us

Welcome to Foglight Capacity Director

Foglight® Capacity Director delivers complete virtual infrastructure capacity life cycle management, spanning planning, allocation, optimization, and maintenance. Get deep insight into your environment, including the availability and estimated time left for CPU, memory, storage, and IOPs. Use historical trends to better forecast resource requirements for clusters, hosts, and workloads—and proactively predict and budget for capital expenditures. Optimize resource utilization and reduce operational expenses by rebalancing the distribution of clusters and workloads. Model your infrastructure changes (add, move, or remove clusters, hosts, and VMs) before deployment, to avoid bottlenecks, performance issues, or reaching the system’s capacity limits. Foglight Capacity Director also includes the Foglight Capacity Manager in the VMware and Hyper-V environments.

System requirements

For information about system requirements for this release, see the Foglight System Requirements and Platform Support Guide.

Before installing Foglight Capacity Director, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform  Management Server
  • CPU: 2-way 2.4 GHz
  • Processors: 1 dual core or 2 single core processors
  • IO: 7.5K RPM, 40 GB or greater
Memory 4 GB
Hard Disk Space 20 MB for Foglight Capacity Director

Installation instructions

Foglight Capacity Director 5.7.7 comes pre-installed on Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.8.5.

Starting with Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.8, the Capacity Management tab in the VMware environment will be automatically upgraded as a lite version of Foglight Capacity Director. However the previous Capacity Management cartridge is still enabled by default, to ensure that the customized dashboards and reports created based on the previous cartridge are still valid. It is strongly recommended that you use the features and data from the new Foglight Capacity Director to rebuild your previous customized dashboards and reports.

Foglight Capacity Director can be installed on the Foglight Management Server versions listed in the Upgrade and Compatibility section.

  1. Download the following packages from Quest Support Portal:
