Resolving PowerShell Error "[0 0 0 00000000] Connecting to remote server failed: User name or password is incorrect" (4375888)

In a Quest MNE environment, migration data to Exchange on-premises works fine when working with Domino. However, tasks with RPS fail with the error message:
 

"DEBUG: [0-0-0-00000000] Attempt 1 failed. Reason: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The user name or password is incorrect." 

 This occurs even though RPS works with the used account and credentials outside of MNE.

The customer has a Root/Child-Domain-Forest scenario with:

• AD account within Root-Domain (FC within AD and Org-Management within Exchange)
• Exchange Account within Child-Domain (Receive As on databases and Recipient Management role)

To resolve this issue without moving the Quest MNE server to the Root-Domain, follow these steps:

1. Change the AD configuration to use a Global Catalog (GC) server from the Child-Domain and a Domain Controller (DC) from the Root-Domain.
2. Ensure that the AD service account itself is from the Child-Domain.
3. Due to the different GC/DC configuration, a logon popup will appear to perform the permissions check against the Root-Domain. Use the AD service account from the Root-Domain for this check.

With this setup, no more errors related to RPS should occur, and the PowerShell cmdlets will execute successfully.
