Exchange Utility errors out in an Exchange Server 2010/2016 hybrid environment. -
Description
- Traffic flows through Exchange Server 2016 and proxies to Exchange Server 2010 as per normal hybrid configuration.
- Message reconstruction for Exchange Server 2016 mailboxes completed successfully.
- Attempts to reconstruct messages for Exchange Server 2010 mailboxes failed with an unknown error.
The following error was observed in the ExchangeUtility.wlog:

Cause
Assumptions:- Exchange Utility is run using the Exchange Storage Manager account - ArchiveMgr_ESM (Default)
- Access to the affected mailbox (via Outlook client) using the Exchange Storage Manager account has been verified to be successfully.
Issue caused by proxy connection in hybrid environment:- By default, connection to Exchange Server 2010 does not use Autodiscover.
- With the inclusion of Exchange Server 2016, all connections are to be made via Autodiscover.
- Exchange Utility needs to be configured to use Autodiscover for all connections.

Resolution
- Run Configuration Console
- In Advanced Settings, add the following:
- Config Key: Exchange Utility Use Autodiscover
- Value: True
- Click on Apply to save changes
