To find out if the message arrived as an attached message (Has a Parent Message) you will need to query the ArchiveManager database.
Find and open the message in the Archive Manager website
With the message open in Internet Explorer right click the message and select properties.
Copy the value for the Address (URL) field.
From that field copy the checksum
For example the url will look like http://archivemanager/ViewMessage.aspx?CheckSum=a23d7658-cfba-b5d5-fb71-a4e0e679871a
Copy the checksum which in the above example is a23d7658-cfba-b5d5-fb71-a4e0e679871a
Then run the following query in SQL Management Studio on the server with the Archive Manager database replacing the checksum in this line with the one from above.
Set @Checksum = 'a23d7658-cfba-b5d5-fb71-a4e0e679871a'
Then in SQL Management Studio on the server with the Archive Manager database click the New Query button and paste in your query.
/****** Script Find Parent Message******/
USE ArchiveManager
DECLARE @Checksum uniqueidentifier
Set @Checksum = 'a23d7658-cfba-b5d5-fb71-a4e0e679871a'
Select * from Message where MessageID in (
SELECT MessageID FROM Attachment where AttachedMessageID = ( SELECT MessageID FROM MESSAGE WHERE CHECKSUM = @Checksum))
/****** End Script Find Parent Message******/
This query will return results if the Checksum you used belonged to a message that was sent as an attachment.
