The minimum required permissions for Essentials depend on what actions are being performed. The recommended permission is Global Tenant Administrator.
- For migrations to SharePoint Online, the minimum required permission is Site Collection Administrator.
- Site Owner permissions are insufficient and will result in errors during a migration.
- For migrations to OneDrive for Business, the minimum required permission is Global Tenant Administrator.
- SharePoint Administrator permissions are insufficient and will result in errors during a migration.
- For creating backups of SharePoint Online content, the minimum required permission is Site Collection Administrator for each site to be backed up.
- For creating backups of OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Groups content, the minimum required permission is Global Tenant Administrator.
- Groups Administrator permissions are insufficient to create backups of Microsoft Groups.
- For functions provided in the Security Manager, Term Store Manager, and Informant modules, the minimum required permission is SharePoint Administrator.
- For functions provided in the Administrator, and Architect modules, the minimum required permission is Global Tenant Administrator.
