Error during saving a data compare: "Illegal characters in path." (72697)

User created a data compare and at the time of saving, the following error occurs:

Exception: System.ArgumentException
Message  : Illegal characters in path.
Stack Trace:
   at System.IO.Path.CheckInvalidPathChars(String path)
   at System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(String path)

Data compare name contains the ">" character.  Data Compare allows illegal characters in the compare name.  Error is only shown once compare is completed and the save is processed.
