Execution of Maintenance Plan in foreground locks application (4238191)

I just created a Maintenance Plan to backup a database on a new instance. I decided to execute the plan in the foreground, instead of the background. The backup files were created but the execution took forever. I lost control of the application and just had to wait for the Maintenance Plan to finish. I would like to see changed how this works when you execute in the foreground. Make it work like the running of a script in background processes so you can control it, which is not run in the background.
