The register license window prompts for key each time Toad is launched.
In some cases, the key is already displayed, the "Continue" button is disabled, and a user cannot proceed.
If the key is deleted and re-entered, the "Continue" button enables and Toad can be opened. However, subsequent launches propose the same issue.
In other cases, the key is not displayed at all.
The key must be entered in each time Toad is launched. In that session Toad will work as expected, except subsequent launches propose the same issue.
RESOLUTION 1:
1. Close Toad.
2. In the Application Data Directory, C:\Users\<personal folder>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for SQL Server x.x delete any license.key files that are found.
3. Test the issue. Launch Toad for SQL Server, enter the key the first time. Subsequent close and launch of Toad should automatically pick up the key and not prompt the user to reenter the license.
RESOLUTION 2:
1. Close Toad.
2. In C:\Users\<personal folder>\AppData\Local\{08439167-4CA5-48E9-A810-A3A7C0B80B06} rename the ProductLicenses.xml (i.e. change extension to xml_old) *
3. Test the issue. Launch Toad for SQL Server, enter the key the first time. Subsequent close and launch of Toad should automatically pick up the key and not prompt the user to reenter the license.
* Note: The ProductLicenses.xml file holds license keys for other Toad products also. If you also have Toad Data Point or Toad Data Modeler, or other, also installed, renaming the productlicense file will reset the license for those other products too. On the following launch of the other products, you will need to reenter those keys at least once.
Renaming the file backs up the keys, so you can refer to this file if needed, and manually register the keys again on each initial launch.
RESOLUTION 3:
If the install of Toad is on a Citrix server, verify with the Citrix/system admin that the individual user profile is saved and not reset each time the Toad or Citrix session is closed and restarted. Verify that the user account has full admin privileges or at least full read and write privileges to the noted directories and sub-directories:
C:\Users\<personal folder>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\
C:\Users\<personal folder>\AppData\Local\
