When trying to connect Toad 9.7.2 an error: "Cannot find OCI DLL: D:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\BIN\oci.dll" is being returned.
Conflict with client install.
Suggestions:
- If working with an instant client, make sure the registry entries for other clients don't conflict with the instant client itself.
- Verify that the Environmental Variables settings are correctly directed to the instant client directoryies, i.e. PATH and TNS_NAMES. Refer to solution 36320 (https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL36320) in KnowledgeBase for information on how to set up an Oracle Instant Client for use with Toad for Oracle.
- If there is an ORACLE_HOME variable found in Environmental Variables, make note of the value and then remove it from the list. Then restart the computer and test Toad's connection. If the issue is not resolved you can rollback the change and add back this variable.
- An instant client should not have any registry entries. If there are not suppose to be any other clients installed on the computer, but entries for Oracle Home/client are found in the registry, please make sure any other full clients are properly removed, and the registry is clear. Then reinstall the instant client again.
