When querying an XMLTYPE table (with Binary Storage) or querying a table with an XMLTYPE (with binary storage) column, Toad will hang or display an Access Violation on Oraclient11.dll.
Issue between 11gR2 Oracle client and Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) which Toad uses to connect.
WORKAROUND 1:
Use Oracle client 10g.
WORKAROUND 2:
Side-by-side installation of Toad 9.7.2*
WORKAROUND 3:
Run the statements as…
SELECT Tablename.X.GetClobVal() as X
FROM Tablename;
STATUS:
Because the issue is due to a conflict on the Oracle end, Toad cannot fully address this issue. Users may still receive the Access Violation error when accessing tables with xmltypes. But Toad should not hang or become non-responsive. This should be addresed in a future version of Toad for Oracle.
Please create a case via 'Case Management' to request Toad for Oracle 9.7.2 installer be placed on ftp for download.
* Note, Toad 9.7.2 requires an old format key (i.e. 0-12345-67890-12345-67890) and will not accept keys in the the new format (i.e. QWERTY12345YU678JJKL90QWERTY456-XY8-1237). Is working witha new format key, please apply the other noted workarounds instead.
