Here is a general overview of how to set up Toad's Policy Manager.
1. Install Toad for Oracle, Group Policy Editor, and Group Policy Server. These can all be installed from the Toad installation executable file (i.e. Toad for Oracle91Standard.EXE).
2. Open Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and make sure that "TOAD Group Policy Service" is started.
3. Launch "Toad Policy Management" shortcut.
4. Select Utilities | Server Setting and fill out information in window. Test connection to make sure it is good.
5. If restrictions will be made to connections, select Utilities | TNS Names File and enter the path to the server's TNSnames.ora file. If restrictions to connections will not be done, then this step can be skipped.
6. Under the Groups tab, select "Add Group". Fill in the group's name and description and add users to the group.
7. Select "Managed Items" tab and select the group to be worked on in the group drop down. Make wanted restrictions in this window.
8. Select the "Save" and "Send Files to Server" icon in the top left corner of the Group Policy Editor window.
9. Create the Toad.pdl file by selecting Utilities | PDL file. Once the file is created, it will need to be distributed to each user's Toad for Oracle directory on their machine.
At this point Toad's Group Policy Manager should be up and running. If any updates are made the "Save" and "Send Files to Server" icons will need to be selected again to register the changes to the server. It will state that GroupPolicy.xml file will be overridden. This is OK, click Yes. A PDL file will not need to be recreated again when updates are made.
More detailed instructions can be found in the GrpPlcyEdtr.pdf file found in the C:\Toad Group Policy Editor by default. This directory/file is available after the Group Policy Editor is installed.
This is only available in Toad for Oracle 9.1 and newer versions.
