When opening the Editor window, nothing can be typed into it. There is no blinking cursor, even when clicking into the blank editor area. When right-clicking, the menu comes up but most options are grayed out.
It is possible to switch to the PL/SQL desktop layout and type into there (new tab, same window).
The following errors may also occur.
"Control 'dpDBMSOutput' has no parent window"
"Control 'dpNavigator' has no parent window"
Corruption in the the EdtorLayout_SQL.lay file in the installation directory\User Files folder.
1. Close Toad.
2. Go to:
* For Toad 9.7 and higher, User File is located in default folder - C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7 (or 10.x or 11.x)\
* For Toad 9.6 or older, User Files is located in default folder - C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\
3. Rename:
EdtorLayout_SQL.lay to EdtorLayout_SQL.lay_OLD
or
EditorDesktopLayout_PLSQL.lay to EditorDesktopLayout_PLSQL.lay_OLD
and
EditorDesktopLayout_SQL.lay to EditorDesktopLayout_SQL.lay_OLD
and if available
EditorDesktopLayout_-PLSQL.lay to EditorDesktopLayout_-PLSQL.lay_OLD
4. Launch Toad to regenerate the layout file with default settings and re-test the issue.
Note: The EdtorLayout_SQL.lay file is only in the 9.0 and newer releases of Toad.
