When working in the datagrid and setting a filter, Toad errors out with an out of memory error on larger tables. This is only an issue when using the right click | Filter Data option from the data grid. The table is 2mil or more rows, with 20+ columns. Smaller tables don't have this problem.
This issue is dependent on the environment, the memory available, and characteristics of the table/data.
When using the right click | Filter Data option, it uses memory to retrieve the data then apply the filter which can use a lot of memory.
RESOLUTION 1:
Make sure there aren't other resource intensive apps or tasks running at the same time.
RESOLUTION 2:
For larger tables, use the grid's toolbar option for Sort/Filter. The sort/filter option in the grid's toolbar may have less impact on memory usage since it processes the filter and data collection in a different way.
Keep in mind, when setting the filter using the toolbar button, it will apply and stay applied to that grid view (based off of install and user) until you choose to disable/remove the filter. These created filters are saved and you can enable/disable ("Remove current filter"), and remove them completely from Toad ("Delete named filters") if needed. Clicking on the black arrow next to the sort/filter button on the toolbar will give you a menu of options for this. When the filter button is gray, no filter is applied. If it is in red, a filter is being applied.
