I've been trying to export (Save As) the results of a query to Excel format from TOAD 9.1 and every time I do it, after a few minutes TOAD will crash.
The data to export is 33,000 records from Oracle 9i with the following columns:
AUDITID NUMBER,
TABLENAME VARCHAR2(50 CHAR),
ATTRIBUTENAME VARCHAR2(50 CHAR),
KEYID1 VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
KEYID2 VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
KEYID3 VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
OLDVALUE CLOB,
NEWVALUE CLOB,
MODIFIEDBY VARCHAR2(40 CHAR),
MODIFIEDON DATE
After a few minutes and a few thousand records exported, TOAD will crash with the following dialog shown:
"Toad has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Clicking Close on this dialog will not close TOAD, I get the same dialog back again and again. I have to right click on Toad's program icon on the Task bar, choose Close, which then Windows presents me with the dialog indicating that the program is not responding and gives me the option to "End Now". Choosing this option ends TOAD.
Checking Task Manager after TOAD crashes reveals that the program is using 2GB of physical memory. My laptop has 3GB of RAM on board.
I have used this Save As to Excel feature many times in the past with the same or greater volume of data using TOAD 9.0 without any problems.
