Schema Browser | Users | Script tab has poor performance on displaying the script. Additionally, all right-side tabs of the Users tab take up to five minutes to display their information.
Toad runs queries on relevant data dictionaries for each tab to display their information. These queries contain bind variables which pass the user ID of the user name selected in the Schema Browser. There are performance issues documented on using bind variables and running queries in Oracle 9i.
RESOLUTION 1:
See the attached documentation from Metalink Oracle that talks about issuing this statement for the session to turn off Bind Variable Peeking:
ALTER SESSION SET "_optim_peek_user_binds"=FALSE;
RESOLUTION 2:
Oracle 9i does not recommend computing statistics in the data dictionary as it does effect the performance of queries on data dictionaries. So, delete the statistics on data dictionary tables to improve the execution of such queries. The DBA will have to perform this task.
