After configuring Toad Security and activating the ReadOnly feature, why can't Toad verify the content of a script when executing it "as a script"? Why can't it authorize the "execute as a script" even with Read only, in order to execute script containing only "select" statements?
The reason that Toad ReadOnly does not allow executing as script is the same reason that the Procedure Editor is disabled: stored procs, cursors, triggers, packages, etc. are often used to update or insert data (which is not allowed in Toad ReadOnly). The Toad 8.6.1 editor does not parse the syntax for the TYPE of query (say for example SELECT statement) in the editor pane. Additionally, if this were allowed, there's nothing to stop the user form selecting a function from DUAL, which might in turn make a database update, which is not allowed.
