The following error may occur when installing TOAD on a Windows 2003 SP1 machine:
The file <drive>:\toad_path could not be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory.
RESOLUTION:
The Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature of Windows 2003 Server SP1.
DEP is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help protect against malicious code exploits. In this particular case, DEP interprets TOAD installation exe as a threat.
This issue can be resolved by adding TOAD to DEP exclude list as follows:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Double click on System icon
3. Select Advanced tab
4. Click on 'Settings' button in 'Performance' section
5. Select 'Data Execution Prevention' tab
6. Click Add button and navigate to the TOAD installation executable file (e.g. toadinstall.exe) and include it in the 'DEP Exclude' list.
Note:
You need to log in as the administrator to carry out these steps and remember to restart your machine when it is safe to do so.
