User connects to DB2 database and runs a query such as select * from table. Toad returns the message "SQL0973N Not enough storage is available in the APP_CTL_HEAP_SZ heap to process the statement." The query works fine in native DB2 tools.
DB2 parameter APP_CTL_HEAP_SZ is too small for complicated applications such as Toad for DB2.
RESOLUTION 1:
Reduce the rows fetch size as mentioned below.
1. Launch DB2 and connect to the database.
2. Go to Tools | Options | Database | General | "Number of rows to initially fetch."
3. Decrease the amount by half and retest the issue.
RESOLUTION 2:
Increase the Application Control Heap Size parameter as mentioned below.
1. Launch a DB2 command line and login as a DBA user.
2. Run the command, where 1024 is the new heap size value: update db cfg for <database name> using app_ctl_heap_sz 1024
NOTE: You would need the correct privileges and should consult with your Database Administrator before making changes to the parameter.
