ODBC applications cannot connect to the database once Toad for DB2 2.0 is installed (4296829)

Installing Toad for DB2 2.0 prevents other applications that require ODBC from successfully connecting to the database. The user receives these types of errors:

"SQL Error State:IM003, Native Error Code: A0, ODBC Error: Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (IBM DB2 ODBC DRIVER - ToadEval)."

"SQL Error State:IM003, Native Error Code: A0, ODBC Error: Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (IBM DB2 ODBC DRIVER - ToadFree)."

"SQL Error State:IM003, Native Error Code: A0, ODBC Error: Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (IBM DB2 ODBC DRIVER - Toad)."

When Toad is installed, it recatalogs the DSN to be accessible to the new IBM DB2 9.1 client. There can be multiple datasources with the same name, but since the DSN's are global, it can only have one.

WORKAROUND:

1. Open a DB2 command window. If the original client is 8.1.6 then you'd open the 8.1.6 DB2 command window

2. From the command window, export the original 8.1.6 catalogs using the following command: "db2cfexp C:\temp\db2catexport backup"
The filename and path can be whatever you choose.

3. From the same command window, re-import the just exported file: "db2cfimp C:\temp\db2catexport"

4. Relaunch Toad and bring up the new connection dialog. Open the client configuration wizard.

5. Select 'Import catalog' and use the file you just created from the export from step 2. Before you click 'Finish', you will need to review the script and remove any entries that begin with "CLI_ODBC".

6. Once the "CLI_ODBC" entries have been removed, go ahead and click 'Finish'. The catalog data will be imported without modifying any ODBC drivers and the node directory error(s) will go away. You need to remove the CLI_ODBC entries before executing the script or the ODBC drivers will be registered to the DB2 version 9.1 client.

STATUS:
Issue fixed in version 2.5. The latest version of Toad for DB2 can be downloaded at: http://support.quest.com/support_download/Downloads.asp

Toad for DB2 2.0 is bundled with the IBM DB2 client version 9.1.0.356. This client overrides and registers the current ODBC drivers. Many applications that require ODBC does not support this client at this time.
