An intermittent issue occurs when running queries while connected to Vertica databases. Sometimes Toad seems to hang up, freeze, or lock up. Toad shows as not responding.
Using an ODBC Vertica driver that is not supported by TDP
RESOLUTION 1:
Check the Release Notes of your TDP version and ensure your Vertica ODBC driver version is listed and supported.
RESOLUTION 2:
Ensure you let TDP finish each action or activity you do, especially long running queries before you run another one or do another activity. Keep in mind as well any other Vertica software tools you are using that may also be running queries on the same tables.
RESOLUTION 3:
Perform a reset of TDP to clear cache / temp / corrupt files.
Vertica completely rewrote their ODBC driver and, in our opinion, there are a lot of bugs in their driver. We have several open support cases with them to try and get them resolved. When we support the 5.0 driver for Vertica depends on when Veritca can get us a stable driver.
