Error "ORA-12704: character set mismatch" when connecting to an Oracle 8 database.
Description
After upgrading to version 3.6, the following error is displayed and the Object Explorer does not display any objects:
"ORA-12704: character set mismatch"
There were no errors in 3.5
Cause
Connection to an Oracle 8.1.7 has never been supported, however, previous versions of TDP did allow for connection with no errors. Changes made to background queries that are run to gather the metadata, to populate the Object Explorer, is causing the error.
Resolution
Use Toad Data Point 3.5 or below if connection to Oracle 8 is required. It should be noted, however, that Quest Support cannot provide direct support for this version of Oracle as it has never been formally supported.
