To set naming conventions, open a physical model, go to Tools | Naming Conventions | Settings.
In the Glossary tab, Word and Character replacements can be defined.
1. Click "Add" and specify a name for that glossary.
2. With that name highlighed, on the left under "Characters:" define the character replacement.
i.e.
Dimension=dim
Note: Naming Conventions are case sensitive. The glossary must contain all variations of the word or the rules in a model should be set to “lowercase” or “uppercase”. If the models should contain object names like "Dimension" and "dimension" then two words must be added to the glossary.
i.e. Both should be defined under the same glossary name
Dimension=dim
dimension=dim
Similarly, character replacements can be defined.
In the Naming Conventions Rules tab, enabled which object types to apply the conventions to. If the objecft type is not checked here, conventions will not be applied to that object.
There are also other character settings on this page to specify.
1. Check the checkbox under the "Enabled" column to specify which to include in the verify and synchronize process.
2. Set prefix, suffix, case, and valid characters if needed.
3. If setting valid characters, make sure to also set a replacer character, and defind the character info at the bottom on the page.
Note: If a replacement needs to be specified for a "space" in a name, define "space" as an invalid character here and note the replacer. Please refer to KB Article 127650 for further details.
Once the Conventions are set, go to the General tab, verify the options here, then click "Verify and Synchronize" in the lower right corner.
A Verify and Synchronize window will appear and list out the changes that need to be made, if any. Check the checkboxes for all that need to be applied and click "Update" in the lower right corner. This will apply all the selected changes to the model.
Note: When defined conventions are applied, the "Name" for an object is changed, but the "Caption"are not.
