How to move the StoragePoint database to another SQL server (4294343)

There is a business requirement to move the StoragePoint database to another SQL server.

1. Turn off externalization for all StoragePoint profiles by editing each profile in Central Administration > Storage Profiles and setting the Externalize content BLOBs option to No.

   

2. Abort any StoragePoint-related jobs that are running in Central Administration > Monitoring > Check job status > Running Jobs. 
3. Disable StoragePoint-related jobs in Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions. Below is an example:

   

4. Backup and/or restore the StoragePoint database from the source to the destination SQL server.
5. On the server where StoragePoint is installed, navigate to %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Metalogix\StoragePoint\Tools and run the Change StoragePoint Database Server tool to change the StoragePoint database connection string value.

   

   Note: The Change StoragePoint Database Server tool will also be listed in the Apps menu of Windows 2012 servers.

   

   Since the Change StoragePoint Database Server tool cannot be found in earlier StoragePoint versions, you may run the PowerShell script below as an alternative to updating the StoragePoint database connection. Note: Script is intended to be executed line-by-line.

   $farm.Update()

6. Re-enable StoragePoint-related jobs in Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions. 
7. Turn on externalization for all StoragePoint profiles by editing each profile and setting the Externalize content BLOBs option to No.
