When upgrading Shareplex, the upgrade process prompts users with the question “Do you want to update the license?” as below:
Current license information:
Customer Name: NNN
License Key: NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Product Name: SharePlex for Oracle
License Key Type: "Perpetual Key"
Do you want to update the license? [no]
This solution delves on the type of response needed for that question.
General information.
It is ok not to update the license during Shareplex upgrade. The license is perpetual and is not contingent on customer being current on Support. The following are the exception:
If there is a server upgrade as a part of Shareplex upgrade, then a new perpetual (permanent) license key may be required since server upgrade is accompanied by changes in things like # of CPU, hostid, etc.
Upgrades from some versions of Shareplex results in the change in hostid even if the server does not change. One such example is upgrade from Shareplex 5.3.4 to Shareplex 7.0.2.
Both of the above situations require a new license key. The users will become aware of the need once Shareplex is started and it complains about the invalid license key. Contact Support or sales rep to get a trial key for the moment , You can request for a new perpetual key by sending in the old license key info and the new splex_uname output to Licensing department (here:https://support.quest.com/licensing-assistance).
Other than this there are no implications when not updating the license.
