The normal sequence of event when installing Shareplex is to first install Shareplex, run ora_setup to establish a Shareplex user in the database and then start Shareplex. The question arises as to whether one can start Shareplex without running ora_setup first.
N.A.
It is not necessary to run ora_setup prior to starting Shareplex after installing it. One can simply start Shareplex after its installation, though Shareplex will not connect to the database. In some cases this can be of help. For example, if one wanted to carry out activities in parallel to save time, then it may come handy to be able to start Shareplex on target even though there may not be any target database in existence at this time for running ora_setup. Starting Shareplex this way on target allows one to ascertain if the messages are able to reach from source to target and troubleshoot any connection issues even as the target database is being created. Once the target database is instantiated and opened, then ora_setup can be run so that the messages accumulated on target Shareplex Post queue can be applied to the target database.
