After the database was upgraded from 9i to 10g, and Shareplex upgraded accordingly, the Capture remained in "initializing" state and did not process any messages though the "status" output showed it as running. The event log had the following messages:
sp_ctrl (wpstd4024:2150)> show log reverse

10/26/07 18:53 Warning: A portion of the redo log could not be parsed [sp_ocap/16563]
The Capture was not current with Oracle prior to the upgrade or the format of redolog from 9i to 10g may be causing issues with Shareplex.
Set the Capture parameter to skip corrupt redolog blocks to see if that helps. The parameter can then be unset once Capture is past the problem point. To set it the parameter, please do the following:
sp_ctrl> stop capture
sp_ctrl> set param SP_OCT_SKIP_BAD_BLOCK 1
sp_ctrl> start capture
Once you bypass this issue you can set unset the parameter by:
sp_ctrl> stop capture
sp_ctrl> reset param SP_OCT_SKIP_BAD_BLOCK
sp_ctrl> start capture
Please check the target for any out of sync that may have been introduced by this by issuing "show sync" on sp_ctrl. The out of sync will only happen if there is actually a corruption in the redologs and the workaround of setting SP_OCT_SKIP_BAD_BLOCK to 1 should not generally cause out of sync.
Another thing that can be tried if the skipping does not help is to force a log switch by "ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE" and then stop/start Capture.
