When upgrading Solaris OS from 5.8 to 9 or 5.8 to 5.10, what needs to be done in SharePlex?
Upgrading OS
While upgrading OS from Solaris 2.8 to Solaris 2.9 or Solaris 2.8 to Solaris 2.10, do the following:
1) Check Supportlink to see if SharePlex may need to be upgraded. Based on SharePlex versions, OS version and Oracle version, SharePlex binaries may need to be upgraded.
NOTE:
In the example below, SharePlex 5.3, Sun 8,9 or 10 and Oracle 9i or 10g, SharePlex does not need to be upgraded as SharePlex uses the same binaries for either Sun 8, Sun 9 or Sun10:
SharePlex for Oracle Version 5.3.0 for Solaris 5.8, 5.9 & 10 Oracle 10g
SharePlex for Oracle Version 5.3.0 for Solaris 5.8, 5.9 & 10 Oracle 9.2
If you need to upgrade SharePlex, upgrade the OS, then get new binaries for SharePlex as needed and upgrade SharePlex as per the SharePlex Release Notes or Admin Guides.
If you do not need to upgrade SharePlex, as in the example above, then go to step 2 below
2) Make sure there are no messages in the queue whilst upgrading:
3) Shutdown Shareplex prior to the upgrade.
4) Perform O/S upgrade
5) Verify that the links in the /var/adm/.splex/V-<shareplex version>/lib<oracle version> are all still intact. If not, relink them
(This step is not required for latest versions)
