Management Shell - Can the confirmation prompt for Delete-RMEMessage be bypassed? -
Description
Scenario:Need to automate the deletion of a large number of messages from mailboxes and in-place archives.
Example:$Script:objSrcSearch = Get-RMEMessage $objSrcMbx -SearchIn Attach -AttachmentOptions Present -AttachmentText "ABC" -TextCaseSensitive -TextWholeWord -ErrorAction Stop
One item was found and the deletion line is:$objSrcSearch | Delete-RMEMessage -ErrorAction Stop
This came up with a Confirm prompt.
Attempt:
Delete-RMEMessage $objSrcSearch -Confirm:$False

Cause
Currently, this is unsupported. There is no option to bypass the confirmation prompt. -
Resolution
WORKAROUNDDelete-RMEMessage is a rather simple wrapper around message.ParentFolder.DeleteMessage(message.Id, true).Hence, for deleting messages from mailbox (primary or archive) or PST, instead of:$messages = Get-RMEMessage ...
$messages | Delete-RMEMessage
Try using the following:$messages = Get-RMEMessage ...
$messages | % { $_.ParentFolder.DeleteMessage($_.Id, $true) }
Note: The $ before true is vital.
Example:
$objSrcSearch | % { $_.ParentFolder.DeleteMessage($_.Id, $true) }
