Access Denied Error on a Mounted Recovery Point (4033588)

After mounting a recovery point, you are unable to access it due to a lack of proper security permissions.

This is the result of Windows Explorer not granting true Administrator rights to specific files or folders. Microsoft included this feature in Windows Server 2012 as an additional layer of security for the overall system.

There are two potential resolutions to this problem.

Option 1

Complete the following steps.

1. Open an elevated command as an administrator and navigate to the mounted recovery point path.
2. Access the files and use copy commands to extract the files and folders of your choosing.

Option 2

You have the second option of using alternative browsers, such as:

• CubicExplorer
• Explorer++
• Xplorer2
• NexusFile
• Q-Dir

Option 3
