Access Denied Error on a Mounted Recovery Point (4033588)

After mounting a recovery point, you are unable to access it due to a lack of proper security permissions.

This is the result of Windows Explorer not granting true Administrator rights to specific files or folders. Microsoft included this feature in Windows Server 2012 as an additional layer of security for the overall system.

There are two potential resolutions to this problem.

Option 1

Complete the following steps.

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt window as Administrator and navigate to the mounted recovery point path.
2. Access the files and use copy commands to extract the files and folders of your choice.

Option 2

You have the second option of using an alternative file explorer, such as:

• CubicExplorer
• Explorer++
• Xplorer2
• NexusFile
• Q-Dir

Next Steps:

1. Download the app of your choice
2. Run the app as Administrator
3. This should let you access the files.

Option 3
