Customer has a problem in which the second LTO-4 drive of a HP StorageWorks MSL2024 tape library cannot be cleaned.
Customer has loaded a cleaning tape in his tape library.
The backup Software has been configured, so that the slot is recognised for the cleaning media.
The drives are also configured for automatic cleaning, all setup as per the KBA (SOL78529 - How to configure Supported Libraries to use cleaning media).
The automatic cleaning only happens for drive 1. Even manually cleaning works on drive 1 (right click on the drive and select Clean).
The cleaning tape is loaded very quickly into drive 2. If you right click on the second drive and select Clean, nothing happens.
Perform the following steps in order to re-establish SCSI Protocol Communications Channel and reconfigure the tape library, as the current setup may have been corrupted:
1] Make a screenshot of NetVault Device Management and on right clicking the Drive and select Configuration and Performance tabs. It is always handy to have this data for any device issues in the future. Then you can remove that tape library.
2] Close Device Management window.
3] Close NetVault GUI.
4] Turn off the NetVault Server and tape library. Reconnect the SCSI cables and terminators.
5] Turn on the library and wait until it has fully booted with no errors.
6] Turn on your NetVault Server.
7] Launch the NetVault GUI.
8] Add the library in Device Management and make sure it has the same Library Name and settings as per the screenshots made earlier.
9] Once the library has been added, run a test Backup.
10] Setup the Cleaning Media settings as per the “How to configure Supported Libraries to use cleaning media” KBA.
