This document describes the steps needed to switch on drive performance statistics for either physical tape drives or VTL drives in order to diagnose bottlenecks during a backup.
If you are experiencing performance issues with your backups then perform the following procedure to enable physical or virtual tape drive statistics:
6. Press the OK button to update the drive configuration
Repeat the steps above for each drive to be monitored. Typically all drives in the library should be monitored, unless a performance problem with a particular drive has been identified.
Note: Performance statistics will be captured & displayed within the Netvault Backup Binary log only if that backup has completed successfully.
The best way of viewing this information is to use the filters within the NetVault log. Set the Warning levels to “all” and specify the job in the “Filter on job”. You will need to look for “Background” information (green dot) and look for: “Plugin data transfer statistics”, “Device transfer statistics” and “Data channel send statistics”.
Turn off device statistics gathering (Disable "Gather statistics on drive performance" & "Gather statistics on channel performance") once the performance bottleneck has been identified.
