Exchange 2007 ESE Restores Fail with 'The restore environment information isn't found or can not be opened'.
This occurs when the "Temporary Directory Used During Restore" is not accessible by the user account under which Exchange is running for the requested ESE Restore method. The Exchange Server uses the UNC share name to access the directory. So, even if the user can access the name directly, (for example, C:\WINDOWS\TEMP), they may not be able to access it through the UNC name (for example, ||CLUSSERV1\C$\WINDOWS\TEMP).
This is seen frequently on cluster machine setups.
1.) Verify that the UNC name of the directory is accessible by the Exchange user.
2.) If that does not resolve the problem, change the "Temporary Directory Used During Restore" to a different location that has a valid share available and is accessible by the user.
If the variable is set to a location on the same drive as the Exchange server databases, the ESE Restore should work.
