NDMP backup job fails when the selection set contains multiple subvolumes -
Description
When backing up 2 NetApp volumes in a NDMP job, 1 volume succeeds but the 2nd volume will fail.This can happen if there are 2 child process backing up to VTL with 1 drive.Backing up both volumes as separate jobs launched one by one will be successful.Messages that may be visible here are:- Check the Mover status and logs as a failure to transition to the Listen state for the Mover may cause this failure.- Backup of '/vol/vol_XXXX' failed -
Cause
When the "Backup Subvolumes Individually" option is selected in the 7-mode filer Plugin options,the main backup path and the individual subvolume entry name(comprising the full path of the subvolume) will get concatenated wrongly.This will result in an incorrect FILESYSTEM variable being passed to the 7-mode filer, thereby causing backup failure.If the backup path is already present, the two strings are not concatenated. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
Create 2 separate jobs for each volume
