Under Plug-in for Exchange 12.0 and 12.1 cluster backups fail with "Proxy Master on DAG member server 'node name' died unexpectedly". (4042193)

When attempting to run an exchange cluster backup using NetVault Plug-in for Exchange version 12.0 and 12.1, the job fails after transferring all data to device.

The log error show:

  "Proxy Master on DAG member server 'node name' died unexpectedly".

This has been recognized as Bug DNPE-745 for plugin for Exchange.

It relates to the size of the messages sent to the proxy. NetVault NetWork Manager has a threshold to limit the size of the messages. Because the message is over the limit, they are being dropped and the message channel is being closed.

WORKAROUND:

The threshold can be increased by editing the NetVault Configuration file "nvnmgr.cfg"

1. Stop NetVault service

1. Change or add the stanza [Network:Message Validation Threshold] for example as follows:

[Network:Message Validation Threshold]

Value=33554432

Please note that the stanza might not exist, and might have to be added to the file. Default value if not set is 8MB as threshold.

1. Start the NetVault services and test backup.
