Prerequisites for using Plug-in Live Client for Linux to perform multipath backups -
Description
Usually it can be referred to Plug-in Live Client for Linux NetVault™ Bare Metal Recovery User Guide for prerequisites for multipath backups, but this KB will provide additional information required from Storix® System Backup Administrators Guide.
This is especially useful when you get these errors when performing backups on multipath devices.
NOTE: Device-Mapper Multipath devices have been found on this system butlinks to these devices could not be found in the /dev/mpathdirectory. Refer to the SBAdmin Device-Mapper Multipath DevicesGuide for information regarding support for these devices.ERROR: The / filesystem has not been included in the backup. A systembackup cannot be performed without this filesystem. -
Resolution
Multipath prerequisites and settings
dm-multipath-tools version 0.4.5 and above (also known as device-mapper-multipath)device-mapper version 1.02 and aboveudev version 039-10 and above
It is required to do the following steps for SBAdmin to detect the multipath device for backups.
1. Copy the UDEV sample rules provided by Plug-in Live Client for Linux# cp /opt/storix/config/dm_mpath_udev_rule /etc/udev/rules.d/99-storixmpath.rules
2. Apply the UDEV rules added from the above step# udevadm trigger
3. Check that the devices has been created in /dev/mpath/* by the UDEV rules# ls -l /dev/mpath/*
4. Please edit /opt/storix/config/device_info in the mpath portion to ensure the device detect patterns match the ones created above
Example for devices with the naming convention /dev/mpath/mpatha0 (Default device pattern created in RHEL7).
/opt/storix/config/device_info needs to be edited/commented/uncommented out certain lines as the default device detect patterns would not be able to detect /dev/mpath/mpatha0

5. Run the following command and ensure the various mpath partitions are detected correctly.
# /opt/storix/bin/stdevinfo -t partition

sda1
sda2
mpath/mpatha1
mpath/mpatha2
