Exchange Plugin 4.5.17
Exchange Server 2010
Restore of an Exchange backup from Jan 2009 to an Exchange Client (which is a different machine to where the backup came from) fails.
We made sure that the Media List showed all media had been scanned in and online, then selected the Saveset to restore and gave the path to restore the edb file in the Restore Options (Copy Files to Target Directory Only). Lastly we selected the Exchange Client.
The restore Job failed with the following error:
Error 2013/02/27 12:56:12 306 Jobs NV01 Job manager lost message channel unexpectedly

Unfortunately the Exchange Plugin is not backward compatible to version 3.1.8 of the Exchange Plugin and you will have to use Exchange Plugin 3.1.8 version in the following way as a workaround:
1] Remove the existing Exchange 4.5.17 Plugin (NetVault Client Management - Right click and select the Exchange Client and select Remove Software - Select the current Exchange Plugin and click on Remove).
2] Restart the NetVault Services on the Exchange Client (NetVault Client Configurator - Services tab).
3] Install the 3.1.8.17 Exchange Plugin (NetVault Client Management - Right click and select the Exchange Client and select Install Software - Point to where you have saved the 3.1.8 Exchange Plugin and install it).
4] Restart the NetVault Services on the Exchange Client and you should be able to successfully drill down the Exchange Server in the Backup window.
Once you have successfully restored the data, make sure you remove the old Exchange Plugin and reinstall the newer version of the Exchange Plugin, so that your existing backups work again.
