After applying Microsoft System Updates on Exchange Server 2010 SP1 or 2, it is no longer possible to see existing Exchange Server Databases under the Exchange Server APM 4.6.8.
Scheduled jobs complete quickly and in some cases only backup the Public Folder databases.
Browsing the Exchange Server APM from the Backup window may result in the following error:
"Plugin died unexpectedly" or "Failed to get list of databases"
It has been determined that installing "Windows Management Framework 3.0" update (KB2506143) causes this behaviour with the Exchange Server APM.
For more information on the update see:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2506143
BUG 22086 has been raised with Development and the issue will be fixed in a future version of the Exchange Server APM.
In the meantime, as a workaround it is recommended to uninstall the "Windows Management Framework 3.0" update (KB2506143), which will allow for the the Exchange Databases to be visible under the Exchange Server APM.
This update is optional and won't affect your Exchange Server if uninstalled, however a reboot will be necessary.
To uninstall Windows Management Framework 3.0:
* Locate and uninstall the following Windows Update:
• KB2506143 - for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
• KB2506146 - for Windows Server 2008 SP2
