NVBU Server 9.0.1 installed on Windows 2008 R2 64Bit.
NDMP 7.6.11 Plugin installed on the NVBU Server.
NetApp Filer connected to the NetVault Server and has OnTap 8.1.2 7-Mode installed.
The NetApp Filer has been added as an NDMP Client successfully as well.
The Dell PowerVault TL2000 tape library is connected to the Filer via SAS and includes an IBM LTO-3 drive (3580).
Trying to add the tape library to NetVault Device Management, but not seeing the tape library listed under the NDMP Robotic Libraries folder.
Typed in the sysconfig –a, system -m and system -t command on the Filer and could see the tape library changer and drive, so we should be able to add the tape library to NetVault.
Also tried powering the NetVault Server, NetApp Filer and the tape library off, then powered the devices up in the following order to create a new communication channel:
1] Power the tape library on and wait until fully booted with no errors and green lights.
2] Power the Filer on and wait until fully booted with no errors.
3] Power the NetVault Server on and try and add the tape library to NetVault.
Unfortunately the tape library still couldn’t be seen under the NDMP Robotic Libraries folder in NetVault Device Management.
Problem was solved by performing the following steps:
A] Contact NetApp for the ibm_lto3_ult3580-hh.tcf file and save the file under the /etc/tape_config directory on the Filer.
Here is a link to the NetApp website for all tcf files and you will need to have login details ready:
http://support.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/tape_config/
B] Check if you can now see the device on the Filer by entering the sysconfig –t command on the NetApp Filer.
C] If you still have a problem adding the device to NetVault Device Management, then connect the SAS cable to a different SAS port on the NetApp Filer (0a to 0b).
